CALGARY — Calgary police are on the lookout for a classic car after thieves stole more than just the bases at a ballpark early Monday.

    Video surveillance shows two men and one woman breaking into the Calgary Vipers home field and filling a 1964 Chevy Impala convertible full of beer.

    They smashed the car though a fence and drove off, but returned three hours later for another load of brew.

    “This is not stealing home, this is stealing away from home,” Vipers president Peter Young said after viewing the video.

    The car was to be given away through a lottery to support the Vipers' charity, Snakes and Batters.

    To make room for the beer, one of the men put a backpack against a wall and left it behind. It has the name “Jadin W” stitched onto it.

    The crooks noticed one security camera, but Mr. Young says it was part of the security system owned by a previous baseball team and wasn't attached to anything.

    “They knocked that one down, but they didn't notice the eight picture-perfect cameras to which they were caught on tape,” he said.

    The Vipers,who play in the Golden Baseball League, are offering two season tickets for anyone who can positively identify the thieves.
