A 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder once owned by U.S. actor James Coburn fetched nearly $11 million at auction this past weekend, making it the most valuable, street legal, vintage car ever sold at auction, according to auction organizers.
You’ve all followed the sordid tale of Unique Performance, the Texas-based company that used to produce the Shelby-designed Mustang GT500E Super Snake replica and other muscle car creations. As you recall, the courts stepped in and held an auction that raised roughly $1 million to help settle the company's debts. Well, apparently that wasn't enough to settle all the now-defunct company's debts. Forty more Mustang shells are headed to the auction block.
The Michalenko Collection auction held April 12 in Rosemont, N.J., offered a range of vintage vehicles, from ambulance to armored car, hot rod to Classic and race car to Rockne.
eBay Inc. announced earlier this week that it is eliminating live auctions as part of its company restructuring.
These days it seems that classic car enthusiasts may be turning away from the bright lights and hype of the high profile car auctions and taking a more subtle approach to selling their one-of-a-kind classics. Last week it was the ’64 Pontiac Banshee Prototype XP-883 that popped up on the Internet auction site, eBay; now Blue Oval fans can get their “unique” fix with a 1954 Mercury XM800 concept car that was posted for sale over the weekend.
If you are in the market for “unmolested” vintage metal, Buick Nailhead V-8s, and a collection of weathered cars ranging from a’41 Plymouth “Woodie” to a ’29 Model A, and you are going to be near Plainview, Texas on April 19, then you will probably want to check out the Marvin Marshall Estate Sale.
The pair of Mustangs collectively known as “KITT” which were used in the TV special “Knight Rider” appear to have been a hit over the weekend at the 6th Annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in West Palm Beach.
When it was all said and done, total sales for the day exceeded $16.8 million, with four cars breaking the magic million dollar mark.
The bankruptcy court that is handling the Unique Performance case is offering 44 Mustang body shells, five GTO shells, 19 Camaro shells, a Charger shell, five ‘Cuda shells, a Challenger shell, and a large selection of shop equipment and automotive parts at auction. Unique Performance is the Farmers Branch, Texas-based company that used to produce the Shelby-designed Mustang GT500E Super Snake replica and other muscle car creations.
