With Old Cars Weekly’s Nova book by Doug Marion selling so well (check the books on the Website) I can’t help thinking that this little Chevy is going to be one hot collector car in the future, when gas starts rising again. The Nova combines a just-right size and good fuel economy with plenty of styling appeal and hot performance options. The upcoming Atlantic City Classic Car Auction has a very special Nova consigned. This one-year-only Nova got a first-class rotisserie restoration five and a half years ago. It has a power top, power steering and power brakes. The body sports NOS front fenders. It is finished in Nassau Blue over R-M diamond epoxy primer. All the original chrome trim has been buffed. The car has many new parts including the windshield, wiring harness, seat pads and covers, door panels, rear side panels, carpets, sun visors, door window handles and convertible top. It is basically a new car from bumper to bumper and has traveled just 16,000 from the time the odometer was set back to zero when the car was restored. An in-line six was standard even in Nova SS models, but buyers could ask their dealer to install a big Chevy V-8. The Chevy II body was actually designed to accommodate V-8s. The engine swap was not inexpensive. Motor Trend took a Nova SS to a Chevy dealer and was quoted $1,555 for a 327-cid V-8, not including installation. A dealer converted this auction car to a V-8 and installed a 327 which now has an Offenhauser intake and triple carbs hooked to a Powerglide transmission. Other features include a 3.08:1 rear, a console and floor shifter and a rebuilt rear suspension with KYB shocks and rebuilt leaf springs.
