Spring Auburn returns to a May date;
Carlisle Events adds personnel to support growth
CARLISLE, PA – 2013 will be the 39th year of automotive-themed events hosted at the Carlisle (Pa.) Fairgrounds and promoted by the Miller families; however, Carlisle Events will enter the new year having undergone a substantial makeover. In fact, before 2012 wraps, changes will have already taken place. Changes include the addition of events, staff members and a change in ticketing policy for most events.
The first of the changes, which has already begun, is the addition of events to the Carlisle Events season ledger. On January 1, 2012, Carlisle promoted, produced or was partner in 12 events. By year’s end, that total will stand at 16 with the addition of the Bloomsburg Nationals powered by Carlisle Events, the Carlisle Sports and Outdoor Nationals (launching in 2013) and a pair of shows in Florida, Zephyrhills Fall and Winter AutoFest. In addition to these four events announced in 2012, Carlisle added a partnership with Auctions America by RM in 2011. Total events that involve the Carlisle brand have increased 60% since the start of 2010.
Carlisle’s 2013 schedule will slightly change beginning with Auburn Spring held at the Auburn Auction Park in Auburn, Ind., which will return to a May event date. The show, held in early June in 2012, is now scheduled for May 9-11, 2013. The event itself will run Thursday through Saturday instead of the customary Friday through Sunday which will allow participants to celebrate Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 12) with their families.
Further changes include the addition of at least five full-time staff members. The staffers include a new event manager for Carlisle Performance & Style as well as the Carlisle Ford Nationals, an event manager for Carlisle Bike Fest and the Carlisle GM Nationals, an additional staff member within the Marketing and Creative Services department, a club relations specialist and a sponsorship sales professional. To date, some positions have been filled, while others are still open with applications being reviewed for consideration. When all five positions are filled, this will push Carlisle’s full-time employee total to over 30.
With multiple additions comes an important reduction to the upcoming season in ticket costs and parking fees for select shows. In 2013 Sunday admission will be reduced by half for all specialty shows, joining Spring and Fall Carlisle where half-price Sunday has been in effect. In addition, parking just outside of Gate 5 will be free (Sunday only). This is applicable for all events except Carlisle Bike Fest. Also, for the Carlisle Ford Nationals, Chrysler Nationals and Corvettes at Carlisle shows, Thursday will be branded as an early bird day and will be marketed as an opportunity for anyone interested in the swap meet, car corral and midway aspects of the weekend to get a jump on their shopping brethren. This feature will cost full price, but there will be no parking fees in Carlisle-owned and operated lots. Finally, in the new pricing structure children age 12 and under will be admitted free. Previously, free admission was granted for children 8 and under.
Season passes are currently on sale as are vendor and showfield registrations for all 16 events. Either would make a great Christmas gift or Valentine’s Day present, especially since Carlisle’s first 2013 event, Zephyrhills Winter AutoFest, falls just one week after the nationally recognized day of love.
