Maybe if the State can cotrol the 1980 Mustang GT that is registered as Historic and driven everyday and hasn't been restored and is primered with cables holding the hood on they wouldn't need to be more restrictive. The thoguht that every "Historic" tag given out is truly eligible is ridiculous. I understand the opposition but I am for more control of how these are treated.
Sorry, just a view point on the other side. I may not like the entire bill... but something has to be done.

My Dad bought me a 1950 De Soto Custom 2 door in gray with matching interior in 1965.I tried to make it cool by putting on shackle extensions to raise it up but instead it just bent the leaf springs with a backwards arch! What a heavy car.... I will never forget it!

Update: SSB 6005 has passed in the Washington State Senate, with a vote of 47 for, 0 against, and 2 excused. One of the two excused was the prime sponsor of the bill, so calling the vote unanimous is safe. The bill has been passed to the House of Representatives. Its public hearing was Friday, February 17, 2012. Nine people from across Washington attended in favor of the bill; four testified, and there were none opposed to the bill present. The bill is set for consideration by the House Business and Financial Services Committeeon Tuesday, February 21, after which it will move to the House Rules Committee. Please provide your support for this bill to all members of Washington's House of Representatives immediately! This session of Washington's legislature closes March 8, and bills not signed by that time are dead, despite unanimous approval.

A version of this big DeSoto was used in New York City as a taxi. They were called DeSoto Sky Vue cabs and I believe they had sun roofs that could be retracted so passengers could gawk at SkyScrapers. When I was in college (North Carolina) our basketball coach, Frank McGuire had one and as a team manager I drove it all over the south to basketball games, packed with players and gear. A very high utility vehicle. If memory serves, the body style started in 1941 and went through the 50's.

Here is a lesser known function that was served by these 8 passenger DeSotos with the "removable door brace" (i.e. center-post) on the passenger's side: Ambulance. These vehicles were available configured to accept a gurney (bed on wheels) along the driver's side, directly behind the driver. Removing the center-post allowed the patient to be easily "inserted" into the vehicle. A "jump seat" on the passenger side provided sitting arrangements for a nurse or medic to accompany the invalid on his journey. Dodge and Chrysler (Windsor) offered comparable 8-passenger models also.

WHAT A WONDERFUL USE OF TWO TONS OF STEEL-------the seating, interior layout, door configuration---really everything--- ending with the fantastic lighted mascot !!! Just a wonderful and unique piece of true American automotive history. I have the space but would build if I didn't ! This may well be my choice for "Car of the year."
