MURPHYS, Calif. _ A 1931 Duesenberg Model J roadster was awarded  Best of Show at this year’s Ironstone Concours d’Elegance. The Duesenberg was originally given to its first owner as a gift from his mother. Twenty-one-year-old S.C. Burden, great grandson of Cornelius Vanderbilt, proudly drove his roadster for three years.
The car’s current owners are Rob and Jeannie Hilarides, dairy farmers from Visalia, Calif. They bought it in 2015 from a collector in Denmark. The Hilarides own another Duesenberg and a barn full of Packards.

Duesenberg 2346/J330 is one of about 60 roadsters built by the Walter M. Murphy Co. of Pasadena.

This example is unmolested and retains virtually all of its original parts. Although various components have been restored, the body has never been off the chassis. The odometer currently shows 49,500 miles.

This year’s Ironstone Concours d’Elegance attracted some 315 vehicles, including antique and classic cars and trucks, vintage race cars, veteran motorcycles, antique housecars and trailers.
