among the many impressive cars at Russo and Steele’s
For its ninth annual January event, Russo and Steele will again transform a parcel of northwest Scottsdale, Ariz., desert into a car collector’s oasis. The Russo and Steele Collector Automobile Auction will take place on Jan. 14-18, and feature 500 European sports cars and American muscle cars, hot rods and customs offered for sale over the four days of the auction.
Event activities begin on Wednesday evening, Jan. 14, with the “Dreams of Steele” charity preview gala. This by-invitation-only fundraiser will benefit the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Emily Center.
Auction activities kick off the following day, Thursday, Jan. 15, with a memorabilia auction beginning at noon. The vehicle auction follows immediately after the memorabilia sale. This same schedule will be in place on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 16-17, with a vehicle preview set for each of the three days beginning at 10 a.m.
On Sunday, Jan. 18, vehicle preview will again begin at 10 a.m., followed by a champagne brunch for bidders, consignors and their guests at 11 a.m. The memorabilia auction begins at noon with the vehicle auction to follow.
For the 2009 auction, Russo and Steele founder Drew Alcazar has announced the consignment of actor Nicholas Cage’s 1970 Plymouth Hemi ’Cuda hardtop, finished in triple black. Delivered from the factory with a Pistol Grip four-speed and Super Trak Pak, and numbers matching-certified by Mopar muscle authority Galen Govier, this Hemi ’Cuda has never before been offered for sale at auction.
Other significant cars consigned to the sale, according to Alcazar, include a 1-of-37-produced race-prepped ’65 Shelby Mustang GT350-R fastback, an original ’71 Dodge Hemi Challenger R/T hardtop (1 of 58 with a four-speed and 1 of 12 with a Shaker hood), and a race-prepped ’63 Shelby Cobra 289 roadster with the ironic serial number CSX2009.
