Barrett-Jackson looking to leave Scottsdale

T he scenery surrounding the January auction action in Scottsdale, Ariz., may change dramatically, if Craig Jackson of Barrett-Jackson doesn’t get what he wants from the city.

Craig Jackson of Barrett-Jackson threatened to scale back the auction company’s January sale from its longtime home and start a new Las Vegas venue, if the city doesn’t meet some of his demands, reported the Arizona Republic on May 9.

Among the items Jackson requested was construction of a large multi-use building to replace the auction tent at WestWorld and the sale of some WestWorld property to Jackson. However, the city did offer to lease Barrett-Jackson land at WestWorld for 20 years. Jackson was reported to use the words “shocked” and “galling” at the city’s offers.

The Arizona Republic further reported that Jackson has already met with Las Vegas Mayor Oscar B. Goodman to discuss locations for a new auction. Scottsdale City Manager Jan Dolan told the newspaper that she was attempting to set up another meeting with Jackson, but he said he did not wish to “waste any more time,” but left the door open to several possibilities.
