Drag racing and more at this weekend’s EMMR open house

YORK SPRINGS, Pa. – The 2015 Spring Open House at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing is scheduled for this weekend, March 28-29, at the museum on Baltimore Road.

Drag racing is the feature program for Saturday with the addition of a new Sox & Martin and Malcolm Durham display area along with new displays for Stahl Headers and Jenkins Competition. The Sox & Martin and Malcolm Durham displays will be dedicated at 11 a.m.  with a special ceremony recognizing these drag racing legends for their many contributions to our drag racing heritage.

Jere Stahl of York, will be on hand to see a new display of several of his early headers that he made for his successful ’57 Chevrolet race car and headers that were made for the late Dave Stricklers’ ‘409 Chevrolet.  A new display of items by the late Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins will likewise be on display from carburetors, heads, and blueprints of his Vega as sent to him from Paul Prior of Chevrolet plus other items from his Jenkins Competition shop.

A new display of race cars from the golden era of drag racing will be on display with 2015 being the “Year of the Roadster” with two of drag racing’s finest race cars from E.J. Kowalski of Reading, Pa., and the Moose Too roadster of the Reinford Brothers. Many new photos and drag racing items have been added to the 2015 display. On display will be York’s Dave Strickler’s 1st  “Old Reliable,” Bud Faubel’s ’65 Honker AWB Mopar, Jungle Jim Liberman’s red Funny Car and Kerm Shindeldecker’s Junior Dragster to round out the display of cars.

A special seminar on Collector Car Fraud will be presented by attorney Bruce Shaw from 1-2 p.m.  And a racer roundtable on the subject “If You Could Only Attend Three More Racing Events in Your Lifetime, What Ones Would They Be?”

A special 25-minute “unreleased” video by Chrysler Corporation – with Sox & Martin and Wally Parks on the ’66 Chrysler cars includes coverage of the NHRA Winternationals and driving expertise by Ronnie Sox – will be running continuously during the day in the EMMR theater in the drag racing area of the museum.

Sunday’s featured program will be dedicated to Sprint Car racing.
