Futurliner to star at CCCA Grand Classic and Grand Experience

HICKORY CORNERS, Mich. — The Classic Car Club of America Museum will put the spotlight on General Motors during its annual Grand Experience on the grounds of the CCCA-Gilmore Museum in Hickory Corners Mich., May 30-June 1.

“Nothing says ‘General Motors’ more than the company’s famous Parade of Progress and the GM Futurliners, which were the symbol of their traveling exhibit,” said Chuck Conrad, CCCA museum president. “I’m happy to announce that our friends at NATMUS have agreed to exhibit Futurliner No. 10 at the Experience.”

Futurliner No. 10 will be displayed during the CCCA’s Grand Experience in Hickory Corners, Mich., May 30-June 1. GM cars built through 1958 are welcome to join the Classics on display during the event.

Twelve Futurliner s were built in 1939 by GMC Truck and Coach, with bodies made by the Fleetwood Division. The Futurliners were updated following World War II for another round of tours around the United States, and of the surviving Futurliners, No. 10 is thought to have the most accurate restoration.

This year is special because a nationally sponsored CCCA Grand Classic will be held May 30 in conjunction with the Grand Experience concours event, to be held on June 1. The CCCA Experience will feature the first 50 years of General Motors production. Any vehicle that was built through 1958 by GM or by one of its predecessors is welcome to apply.

“We are looking forward to having an eclectic gathering of vehicles that we just don’t see every day,” Conrad said. “General Motors has been responsible for an incredible amount of automotive history, not only in the USA, but world-wide. Of course, all CCCA Full Classics® are welcome, too. It’s a great opportunity to shine up your car and enjoy the camaraderie you’ll find at the CCCA’s museum.”
