The Quail among August Monterey highlights
CARMEL VALLEY, Calif.- The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, an annual feast and garden party for automotive enthusiasts from around the world, will be held Friday, Aug. 19, at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel Valley.
More than 200 rare motor vehicles, selected from private collections around the world, will be on display. Featured themes will include Rivalries of the Ages; 100th Anniversary of BMW; Retrospective of Laguna Seca Raceway; 50th Anniversary of the Lamborghini Miura; Pre-War Sports and Racing; Post-War Sports; Post-War Racing; Supercars; The Great Ferraris; and Sports and Racing Motorcycles.
The Quail Rally is a three-day drive preceding The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. Comprised of 30 vintage automobiles from different car collectors. Participation is by invitation only.
Once each year in August, 200 of the most prized collector cars in the world roll onto what is often called the best finishing hole in golf — the famed 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links. Tire meets turf and transformation occurs: the stage is set for one of the most competitive events in the automotive world.
Originally a small social event paired with a road race through the pine and cypress forests of Pebble Beach, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance has grown into the top-ranking collector car competition in the world.
The concours is not a contest of speed, but of elegance. Automobiles and motorcycles are judged for their historical accuracy, their technical merit and their style. The best garner reward and recognition.
On Aug. 21, the 2016 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance will feature the following marques and special classes: Delahaye; Chapron Coachwork; BMW Centennial; 50th Anniversary of the Ford GT40 Victory at Le Mans; Bizzarrini; Lamborghini Miura; Two-Man Indianapolis Race Cars 1930–1937; and BMW Motorcycles.
