During the Society of Automotive Historians’ annual meeting in Hershey, Pa., held during the Antique Automobile Club of America’s Eastern Division National Fall Meet, retired Old Cars Weekly “Q&A” columnist Tom Brownell and the publication’s staff received awards recognizing their contributions within the hobby.
Brownell was awarded the SAH’s Friend of Automotive History Award, which is given to an individual who has exhibited outstanding service in, and made outstanding contributions to, the field of automotive history. The exclusive award was given to Brownell for his service not only to Old Cars Weekly readers, but through his work as editor at large at Vintage Truck and as the author of several books, in addition to his work with the Society of Automotive Historians. Due to Brownell’s health, his niece and her car-enthusiast husband were present to receive the award.
The Old Cars Weekly staff received the Richard and Grace Brigham Award, which is presented to the periodical that exhibits the best overall treatment of automotive history over all issues published during the previous calendar year.
