It will be hard to miss Janis Joplin’s psychedelic Porsche at
this year’s Marin Sonoma Concours d’Elegance.
The Sunday show will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Marin County Fairgrounds, Marin Civic Center, San Rafael, Calif.
Joplin’s car is on loan from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Ohio.
A field of more than 200 rare and vintage vehicles will also be on display, with judging of vehicles in 18 classes. As well, the event will be the last opportunity in the U.S. to view the exclusive Lexus LFA with a base MSRP of $375,000, that claims to redefine the supercar for the 21st century.
Other main attractions at the Concours will be an exhibit of landmark historic Hot Rods and Kustoms and a rare chance to honor two legendary creators: Blackie Gejeian and Ed Iskenderian. Founding Hot Rod builder and racer Gejeian, 83, plans to attend with two of his famous cars, The Emperor and The Shishkebab Special. Iskenderian, a.k.a. “The Camfather,” now 89, is the inventor of the Isky racing camshaft. His 1924 Model T Roadster, the same car featured on a 1948 Hot Rod Magazine cover will be on display.
In addition there will be an exhibit of classic commercial vehicles such as taxi cabs, fire engines and even a 1929 Buick Argentina Hearse.
Also, cars will be for sale at the Car Corral and there will be exhibitors of automotive products and services, live music, food, wine plus a display of original, contemporary car-related art. In addition, a flotilla of classic wooden boats will be moored in the Civic Center’s lagoon.
Admission at the gate is $15 general, and under 16 free with an adult. Tickets to a private VIP Tent with gourmet food and wine pairings is also available for $75, which includes admission to the Concours. Raffle tickets to win an exclusive Parmigiani watch valued at $18,000 are also available for $25. The raffle drawing will be held at the Marin Sonoma Concours, and the ticket holder need not be present to win.
