Tree Huggers

Poet Joyce Kilmer famously wrote that she never saw a poem as lovely as a tree. The legendary wordsmith likely never set foot in a salvage yard, but had she done so, she would have encountered many a oddly situated tree to enhance her fancy.

Roaming Old Cars Weekly contributor Ron Kowalke has spent the last two decades touring salvage yards and vintage vehicle collections amassed in woods and fields. Vehicles that have been parked outdoors long term have a tendency to harbor tree growth, especially in empty engine bays. This photo gallery showcases this unique vehicular arboretum, photographed by Kowalke, and aptly titled “Tree Huggers.”
