Excitement is building for the collector car hobby's biggest news story of 2007: the unearthing of a 1957 Plymouth Belvedere from under the sidewalk in front of the Tulsa courthouse.

In case you've been hiding in a concrete bomb shelter, here's the story: In 1957, the Tulsarama organizers buried a new Plymouth, chosen for its futuristic styling, in a concrete vault as a time capsule. The plan remains to give that Plymouth, regardless of its condition, to the person who was closest to estimating the 2007 population of Tulsa back in 1957.

Hundreds of Tulsa residents were present for the burial, but thousands are anticipated for its unearthing. The plan is to remove the Belvedere two-door hardtop at noon on June 15, then whisk it away to the Tulsa Convention Center, where it will be displayed by 7 p.m.

Since space to view the Plymouth's unearthing is limited, the best place to see the car will be at the convention center where an invitational car show is being held June 15-17. Outside the convention center, areas of downtown Tulsa will be closed for a separate open car show to be held June 16-17. A sock hop has also been arranged for June 16.

The word on the street is, "be there or be square." Old Cars editors don't plan on being square, so watch for exclusinve coverage of the car's unearting at www.oldcarsweekly.com.
