Cheers to Cruising

Editor Input Needed

In Michigan, the anniversaries are adding up. Specifically in Detroit, where the city has done the math and combined the 40th anniversary of the first Camaro, 50th anniversary of the first 392-cid Hemi, 75th anniversary of the 1932 Ford and 200th anniversary of Woodward Avenue to create a new cruise, the 365 Years of Fun.

The ignition key will be turned on at the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, Mich., when participants begin to gather at 10:30 a.m. on May 13 to kick off National Transportation Week, which runs May 13-19. From the Walter P. Chrysler Museum, the cruise will head south at noon to The Henry Ford in Dearborn via Woodward Avenue.

Fifteen registered, pre-approved representatives of each automotive celebration will be chosen by the Motor Cities National Heritage Area to participate in the cruise, and spectators are welcomed to view the automotive attractions at the start and finish.

The cruise is expected to end at The Henry Ford at 1 p.m., and participants will gather on the front lawn of the museum's clock tower for spectator viewing.

The event also marks Detroit as the home of National Transportation Week, with help from such organizations as MCNHA, Woodward 200, the Michigan Hot Rod Association and the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau.

"The 365 Years of Fun Car Cruise celebrates our area's transportation heritage and future, helping promote both schools and universities offering transportation-related degrees and some of the other exciting automotive events happening in Detroit this year," said Christopher Baum, DMCVB's senior vice president of sales and marketing.

Owners of cars for which the event is celebrating anniversaries, and who would like to participate in the cruise, can e-mail Charlie Rose at the Michigan Hot Rod Association at
