Lt. Colonel Virgil "Gus" Grissom was one of the original seven Mercury astronauts selected by NASA in April 1959. He became the second American to travel into space on July 21, 1961. Grissom became the first person to travel into space twice, on March 23, 1965. Prior to his third space trip, on an Apollo mission, Grissom, Roger Chaffee and Edward White were tragically killed on the launch test pad in the Apollo flash fire disaster Jan. 27, 1967.

This Corvette has received a professional restoration and received many awards, including the NCRS award. The car was delivered brand new to Grissom by Jim Rathmann of Jim Rathmann Chevrolet in Melbourne, Fla.

This car represents a fine example of a top Corvette, as well as a true piece of Americana.
