Chrysler Corp. fans and old-car collectors alike have been waiting 50 years to see the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere Sport Coupe that was buried beneath the southeast corner of Tulsa County Courthouse lawn on June 15, 1957. Will the Plymouth be in pristine condition? Will it be rust and dust? Thousands of spectators will find out first-hand at the car's unearthing June 15, 2007, in the Maxwell Convention Center Arena in Tulsa.

Due to the development of Tulsa over the past 50 years, the spectator area around the Plymouth's burial site is limited. Since only a few hundred people were at the car's burial, space wasn't an issue back in '57. But now that thousands of people are expected at the time capsule dig-up, there won't be room for everyone at the unearthing. However, Tulsarama officials have developed a plan to allow everyone to see the car's opening from the capsule, even though they won't get to see the capsule get pulled from the earth.

Here's the plan: Tulsarama officials will unearth the time capsule from the town square at noon on June 15. The still-sealed time capsule carrying the Plymouth and its contents will be carried to the nearby Maxwell Convention Center Arena, and tickets are available to see the capsule's opening at 6:30 p.m. June 15. Large monitors in the arena will be focused on the capsule when it is opened, ensuring a good view of its opening.

The fun doesn't end with the Plymouth's rising. An invitation-only car show has been arranged, and it starts at 3 p.m. June 15. Once the Plymouth is unveiled, it will be displayed in the invitational car show through June 17. An outdoor car show that is open to the public will display cars June 16-17 around the convention center. For those in need of an extra dose of '50s spirit, a sock hop has been planned for 7:30 p.m. June 16.
