Can You Clean Your Car With Slime?
If you hate seeing dust and crumbs in the nooks and crannies of your car’s interior, you need to get your hands on slime, also known as a car cleaning gel. What initially started out as gooey playdough for kids, is now used by adults all over the world to keep the interiors of their cars squeaky clean. And not just cars, you can use them to clean any hard-to-reach areas in your home.
What Is a Car Cleaning Gel?
A car cleaning gel is a well-made slime that gets into the crevices of your AC vents, cup holders and design patterns on your dashboard and absorbs all the dust (that is impossible to clean otherwise). It’s initially a sticky, gooey and jelly-like gel (doesn’t stick to your hands but feels sticky). As it absorbs dust and other particles, the slime starts to lose its stickiness and utility.
Slime has a very interesting texture and gained popularity as a toy for kids, but its greater potential wasn’t discovered until some folks started putting up videos showing how you can clean your car’s interior with it on TikTok. While it’s possible to make slime at home, we suggest that you purchase it the first few times so you are aware of what genuine slime feels like.
Can You Make Slime at Home?
It’s normal to be skeptical of using a DIY, homemade slime on your car’s dashboard, but we assure you it isn’t really that bad of an idea. If you’re still uncertain, we suggest that you cut to the chase and order a quality, pre-made slime for cleaning your car.
Once you have an idea of what actual slime looks and feels like, perhaps you can then take a leap of faith and make it at home yourself. But before you do, go over the following DIY methods to make slime at home:
How to Make Car Cleaning Slime
Here’s how you should generally make a standard-sized slime ball for best results:
- Mix 1/4 cup of borax and 1 cup of warm water
- In another container, mix 1/2 cup of warm water with 5 ounces of white glue
- Once you’re done, combine both the mixtures and stir them until they acquire a firm consistency
- If your mixture isn’t firm enough, add some more borax
- Knead it into a ball and you’re done
- If you want to have a colored slime, just add a few drops of food coloring while mixing water and glue
How to Make Slime Without Borax
Borax isn’t a very skin-friendly material, so if you don’t have it or would like to avoid using it, here’s how you can make slime without it:
- Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 8 ounces of white school glue
- Combine it with 2 tablespoons of saline solution (contact lens cleaner)
- Mix it gently until it’s firm
- Knead it into a ball and keep it as it is for a few minutes before using it
While it isn’t the best way to make slime, it’s still good enough to clean the nooks and crannies in your car.
Here’s How You Can Make Slime Without Glue and Borax
You can also make slime without glue but we won’t recommend it. It’s best that you make a quick run to the store. But if car cleaning isn’t a priority, here’s another way to make slime at home:
- Mix 1/2 cup of dish soap with 1/4 cup of cornstarch
- Mix them well and slowly start adding water
- Keep pouring in water followed by stirring until the consistency is right
- Start kneading the mixture and keep at it for a while until you have a nice sticky ball
