55 Years of '55s

It's no secret that I have an affinity for the cars of 1955 (particularly Cadillacs), but it's an affinity I share with legions of owners with Chevrolets, Fords, Dodges, Packards and any of the other benchmark cars from that special year.

To mark this watershed year in American car production, the Feb. 4 issue of Old Cars Weekly will be dedicated to the cars of 1955. Today, I began preparing the stories for this special issue, and I am pumped. We have some great stories coming to you, and here's a taste:

-Scenes from the 1955 Chicago Auto Show: See displays of Studebaker, Packard, Cadillac, Willys and others at this exciting show that featured beauty queens, cars and stars.

-Previous '55 Mercury owner Phil Hall's memories of a Montclair hardtop, with an accompanying historical perspective on the car.

-A Super '55 Buick Century sedan, highlighted by Bob Tomaine.

-Did you know the 1955 Plymouth went from pen to tin in less than a year and a half? Bob Tomaine discusses the 1955 Plymouth's clean break for its ho-hum 1954 engines and styling.

-A mysterious 1955 Cadillac appears in a vintage photograph with football legend Norm Van Brocklin. Can you solve the mystery?

-AMC and Davy Crockett teamed up in 1955. Read Phil Hall's piece on this match made in TV land.
