Several of my friends have been watching the first few days of the Arizona auctions on TV and there have been quite a few remarks about the number of empty seats in the auction arena. I'm not all that sure if the crowd is down that much, or if everyone is getting up to crowd around the cars and try to get their mugs on national TV. I hear that the announcers are making some typical mistakes, such as inferring that it took a lot of work with an English Wheel to restore a Kaiser-Darrin roadster. I hate to break the news to them, but the sliding-doors Kaiser sports car is made of fiberglass, which is real hard to shape with metal fabrication tools such as an English Wheel. But then, you never really know what's going on at an auction, do you?
