AHEAD OF THE CURVE

Pontiac collectors have long been ahead of the curve. Don Bougher, who founded the Pontiac Oakland Club International 40 years ago always believed in not setting a date limit on member cars. Whether you had a 1926 Pontiac or a brand new Pontiac, you could join the club as long as you loved Pontiacs. If you had an Oakland–the car that became Pontiac–you could also join POCI. And today, GMC truck owners can also join the 10,000 member club because there was always a link between GMC and Pontiac.

Don and Cindy Meyer of Ripon would be perfect candidates for POCI membership. Gunnner’s Great Garage ran into them a few weeks ago at the New London Old Car Show. They had entered their rare 2007 Pontiac G6 hardtop convertible.

The G6 ragtop had a base price of $29,000 and is a four-seater. And it is a rare car. According to Don Meyer, just over 200 of them were built in 2007. The G6 was introduced in 2004 as a replacement for the Grand Am. It was built on the GM Epsilon platform which it shared with the Chevrolet Malibu and Saab 9-3 along with other General Motors vehicles. The hardtop convertible was added to the line in 2006.

Since Pontiac closed up shop, collector interest in the brand has been growing by leaps and bounds.
