Sad day in Hazzard County: Bo Duke’s General Lee up for sale

Editor Input Needed

Nearly every boy (and a lot of girls) growing up during the 80s imagined themselves sitting behind the wheel of the bright-orange 1969 Dodge Charger better known as the General Lee--churning up the dust around the Hazzard County hollows as the musical horn blares the twelve sweet notes of "Dixie."

Well boys (and girls), dreams can become reality. Bo Duke himself, aka John Schneider, is selling the very car that TV Land named the most "Famous Car in Television History" back in 2004.

"This car has done a lot for me over the last 10 years and now it can be a part of your personal collection," said Schneider, who recently listed the car for sale on eBay.

Schneider's version of the General Lee appeared in the last "true" Dukes of Hazzard movie, "Dukes Go To Hollywood." If you don't believe it, under the hood are the autographs of all the living original cast members and crew that were on the TV show to prove it. It is also the car that Warner Brothers used as a template to build the General Lee's used on the latest incarnation of the Dukes of Hazzard movie starring Jessica Simpson and Willie Nelson.

Schneider's car also recently starred as another car named Traveller in his most recent movie, Collier & Co, Hot Pursuit!
Although the plate shows that the car has a 426 Hemi under the hood, the car actually has a 511 crate motor installed back in 1998 that produces approx 725hp of stump-yanking muscle. It has suspension by Hotchkis, auxiliary transmission by Gear Vendor, Viper brakes and a racing steering box.

Bidding on this historic car is set to end on the evening of May 4, 2007. So, if this is a car that you feel you just can't live without, then you'd better fire up the ol' still and start earning some cold hard cash. As of 4 p.m. on May 1, there had been more than 40 bids and the price was in excess of a cool $2 million. Yee-Haaw!
