According to concept car collector Joe Bortz, who donated the now-famously restored Futurliner No. 10 to the National Automobile & Truck Museum of the United States (NATMUS), a Futurliner reunion will be held during Auctions America by RM’s Auburn Spring Collector Car Auction, which will run May 12-15 at the Auburn Auction Park in Auburn, Ind.
“It is the first time a restored and unrestored bus have been displayed together,” Bortz said. “In the last 30 years, there has never really been two shown together, and there has never been an unrestored bus shown with a restored bus.”
Bortz collected five of the remaining Futurliners in hopes of restoring some of them to carry his restored concept cars. During the 1980s, he changed his plans and before any were restored, all were sold but the Futurliner he donated to NATMUS. A very dedicated group of volunteers restored that Futurliner and has been showing it at events around the country.
The unrestored Futurliner to be shown along side NATMUS’ restored Futurliner will be auctioned at 1 p.m. May 14 (tentatively) during the Auctions America event, according to Bortz. The reunion will be hosted by Bortz, Auctions America and NATMUS.
