Judging from the model year of the newest truck in this
photograph, it’s about 1939 and the bakery still favors MoPars.
That’s a 1937 Ford panel in the foreground, followed by a 1939
Plymouth (perhaps a sedan delivery), ca.-1934 Dodge (likely
another sedan delivery), 1938 Dodge panel and 1937 Dodge panel.
When Michael Johnston remodeled the bakery his family has owned for more than 50 years in Sheboygan, Wis., he decided to return the building, once operated as Sheboygan Baking Co., to its original 1889 appearance. Now, the building housing Johnston’s Bakery includes old-growth pine floors, tin ceiling tiles, belt-driven ceiling fans, antique furnishings and old photographs of his family.
“Shortly after our grand opening, some of the descendants of past owners began bringing in their old pictures to hang up, also,” wrote Johnston. Among those early photos collected by Johnston and his family are this group of photographs of trucks used by previous owner Herman Siegert. Johnston hoped to help identify the year, make and models of the pictured bread haulers. The OCW staff has given you a head start on identifying the trucks, but please contact us if you can add more details.
