Hershey's revvin' up for 2011 Fall Meet

The Eastern Division AACA National Fall Meet takes place Oct. 5-8 in Hershey, Pa. This year's theme is "The Engines Keep Revvin' in 2011."

Hosted by the AACA Hershey Region, the meet is located on the grounds and parking lots surrounding Hersheypark and The Giant Center. It consists of more than 9,000 flea market spaces, 1,000+ car corral spaces and approximately 1,500 show cars.

On Friday, spectators are welcome to watch a Race Car Condition Run and the Huges High-Wheeler Event, both held at Hersheypark Stadium. In the evenings there are movies, a talent show and an awards banquet.

In conjunction with the show, the AACA Museum will again host "Night at the Museum" from 6-10 p.m. Oct. 5. The museum also will display a one of a kind Stearns Knight, hold a silent auction and exhibit works by automotive artists David Snyder, Dan Reed, David Snyder, Tony Sikorski and Matt Watt. This also will be the last opportunity to see the Indy 500 exhibit.

The museum will remain open until 9 p.m. this year to offer food and beverages to showgoers at the end of the day.

Authors signing auto books at Hershey

The Society of Automotive Historians and the Hospitality Committee will hold an authors’ book signing event at the Fall Meet of the Antique Automobile Club of America in Hershey at 1 p.m. Oct. 7 in the Hospitality Tent.( It is located in the Orange Field at BB-19.)

The featured authors will include:

James H. Cox who will sign his book, Simply Bev, Deterrmination Is Everything, published by iUniverse Press. Jim’s book is a loving and poignant remembrance and biography of his wife, Beverly Rae Kimes, who was one of the foremost researchers, writers and editors of automotive history before her untimely death. She was also a tireless and gracious mentor to many other researchers and writers. Bev was a past president and one of the most influential persons in the development of the Society.
Christopher Kit Foster is the author of the definitive book, The Stanley Steamer, America’s Legendary Steam Car, published by the Stanley Museum. Kit is a contributing editor of The Splendid Stutz, published by the Stutz Club. He has authored hundreds of articles and columns, and is a past president and editor of the Society.
John A. Heitmann is the author of The Automobile and American Life, published by the McFarland Publishing Company. His book is a story of how the automobile changed the essence of life in America. John is a professor of history and the vice-president elect of the Society.
Howard Kroplick is the author of The Vanderbilt Cup Races of Long Island, published by the Acadia Publishing Company. Those races were some of the most significant events in motor sports history. Howard is also the co-author of The Long Island Motor Parkway which is a story of the forerunner of the modern highway system and a volume containing more than 200 rare images. Howard is the owner of the Black Beast, the 1909 Alco race car that competed in the first Indianapolis 500 race one hundred years ago in 1911.
Richard A. Stanley is the author of The Lexington Automobile, A Complete History, and Custom Built by McFarlan, both published by the McFarland Publishing Company. The Lexington automobile won the Pikes Peak Hill Climb twice, and the McFarlan is one of the great prestige marques in vehicle history.
Joel Finn is the author of Caribbean Capers: The Cuban Grand Prix Races of 1957, 1958, and 1960, published by the Racemaker Press. This book is a quality look at an important part of motor sports history.
James O’Keefe is the author of The O’Keefe Winners’ Database, published by Joe Freeman and the Racemaker Press. This impressive compilation allows the creation of simple and complex digital searches of approximately 250,000 entries in an outstanding and comprehensive listing of motor racing events from 1895 - 2010. Other Racemaker Press authors may be present.

The Society of Automotive Historians was founded in 1969, and now has over 900 members in 45 states in the United States and in more than 20 countries. The members come from all walks of life and include authors who write books and articles about automotive history as well as people who simply enjoy reading and researching it.
