My son Jesse and I are at the Antique Motorcycle Club of America National Meet in Davenport, Iowa and it is awesome. I even saw some old friends like car collector Bill Winslow of Galena, Ill. and vintage tire king Corky Coker (boy does Corky have a bike collection!) Hagerty Insurance and J.C. Taylor are also vending in the swap. I can't believe the antique bikes. When's the last time you saw a Thor or a Flying Merkle or a Jefferson? (Gary Esse should have that last one on display at his upcoming Fall Jefferson show.)
Which reminds me, it's fall and the travel schedule is intensive. Next week I'm going to the Old Car Festival at Greenfield Village, then Cowboy Bob's "Pig N Piston" rod show in Fond du Lac, Wis. The next week it's the Fall Vintage Festival at Elkhart Lake. Corvette Funfest is coming up, along with Jefferson. And then you have Carlisle, Hershey, the Barrington Concours and the big swap meet in Cedar Rapids. Better put your traveling shoes on.
But this W/E it's beautiful old bikes. If you're anywhere near the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds in Davenport, the motorcycle concours is Sunday morning. And the show is free, though a donation to the club is requested.
