Circus Museums and Vineyards

Oh man! I'm on "vacation." Well, actually I'm home, but I'm burning up vacation time and having some old-car fun.

Our Saturday journey to Baraboo, Wisconsin for the show at the Circus World Museum was the most fun we have had in a while. Due to rain, this show for pre-1940 cars only only drew about 40 vehicles, but once the clouds lifted everyone there had a blast. Members of the Capitol Model T Club did their famous Model T assembly twice, beating the half-hour mark both times. There was also a mini circus with acrobats, a clown, an escape artist and dancing elephants. If you own a prewar car, definitely put this event on your 2008 schedule.

On Sunday we continued to Botham Vineyards & Winery in Barnevelt, Wis., for their annual car event. Peter and Sarah Botham are car enthusiasts of the first order, with family roots that go back to the creation of Road America in the '50s. Their car show featured fabulous racers like George Stauffer's "Silk Cut" Jaguar, but it also included a Model T Ford Fire Truck, a large turnout of Metropolitans (in just about any color you would want), a great late-'40s Buick Resto-Mod, Classic LaSalles, Packards and Lincoln-Continentals, sports cars, '50s cars, Citroens, MGs, Vipers. In all, about 150 cars filled thepretty hilly landscape. The food was great, the wine-tasting was fun and the cars were terriffic. Put this one on your 2008 show list, too.
