One of Wal Mart's secrets to success was bringing the shopping cart to big box stores. When I was young, shoppers in supermarkets wheeled carts around, but "department store" customers either limited their purchases to what they could carry or got store personnal to help them. Sam Walton got people to buy more "general merchandise" by giving them a cart they could conveniently fit more product in.
This weekend I'm at Mid America Motorworks CORVETTE FUNFEST in Effingham, Ill., and guess what company ower Mike Yager has done? He erected a dome in the middle of his Corvette flea market, poured a concrete floor under it and filed it with SHOPPING CARTS for his customers to roll around and fill with Corvette goodies.
