MERCURY CLUB COMING TO 3Gs IN JULY
International Mercury Owners’ Association (www.mercuryclub.com) members will hold its annual show Thursday-Saturday, July 12-14, during the Iola Old Car Show & Swap Meet (www.iolaoldcarshow.com) in Iola, Wis. On Thursday July 12 at 4:30 pm, the IMOA members will travel 15 miles east to Gunner’s Great Garage, in Manawa, for an evening Car-B-Que and garage tour.
The theme for the 2012 Iola Old Car Show & Swap Meet will be “21st Century Orphans.” The honored marques will be Plymouth, Oldsmobile, Mercury and Pontiac. It appears that Mercurys may outnumber any of the other brands, although we’ll have to wait until July to know for sure.
The Iola Old Car Show is reserving space just for IMOA members for all four days of the show. This will allow the IMOA to hold its annual judging event on Saturday at the Iola show. The reserved area is not in one of the theme car areas, which are set aside only for cars from the years 1982 and below. IMOA members will be able to bring cars of any year to the club’s reserved area, although only cars from 1987 and older will be judged by the IMOA.
The Iola Old Car Show grew from a Lions Club chicken dinner featuring about 20 classic cars in 1972 to its current 2,200 show cars and 120,000-plus spectators on a 300-acre property.
