Simeone Foundation goes 'under the hood'

Publish date:

For being a relatively new museum, the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum really has its act together and offers innovative ways for visitors to interact with the museum's cars (which are incredible, by the way).

Even in January, the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum isn't letting low temperatures and snow get in the way of a good time. The museum is continuing its "Demo Days" through the winter and will have an "Open Hood" Day inside the museum's main exhibit area on Jan. 22 at noon.

Says the museum: "The theme of this event is the 3-Liter Sports Racing Car and Dr. Simeone will present a lecture on the cars and their significance. We'll have eight examples of cars with 3-liter engines: 1925 Alfa Romeo RL SS, 1927 Bentley Speed Model, 1938 Alfa Romeo 2900B, 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, 1956 Maserati 300 S, 1958 Ferrari 250 TR, 1958 Aston Martin DBR1, and the 1975 Alfa Romeo T-33.

"This will be a unique opportunity to compare a range of competition 3-liter engines, from the early days of motor racing to the beginning of the modern era. After the presentation, we'll let you get up close to each motor to take photos, so by all means, bring your camera."

The fun continues through 2011 with once-a-month Demo Days. These exhibitions will be held on the fourth Saturday of each month at noon, weather permitting. With the exception of the January and February events, the Demo Days feature cars being driven on a three-acre lot in back of the museum.Visitors are encouraged to check the museum's website ( before coming for any last minute changes.

Admission to the Demonstration Days is included as part of the regular admission price.
