It's impossible to get tuckered out while talking about Tuckers, and I should know — we've been talking a lot of "Tucker" lately in Old Cars Weekly's "Sound Your Horn" section. In addition, the Tucker Automobile Club of America has had a lot to talk about with Tucker No. 1035 receiving new freedom away from vandals and thieves in a long-shuttered Brazilian car collection. According to the club's publication Tucker Topics, No. 1035, a slightly modified car that was originally sold in 1948 to a would-be Tucker dealer in Brazil in late 1948, has come to the hands of the mayor of the city of Cacapava. Those responsible for the car are seeking resources to restore the dilapidated but still very much restorable Tucker.
You can read more on the car in the TACA's excellent website, http://www.tuckerclub.org.
More on Tucker:
For OCW readers, here's a glimpse at a Tucker photographed on a used car lot in the early 1950s, which is the topic of some discussion in the April 21 issue of Old Cars Weekly, which will mail this Thursday:
Reader Earl Schmelling, who snapped the photo, would like to know the fate of this slightly beat-up Tucker 48 — and so would we!
And, yes, even more Tucker!
Our friends over at Veloce Publishing in the UK mailed a copy of "Preston Tucker & Others – Tales of brilliant automotive innovators & innovations" for Old Cars Weekly to review. A quick page through the book makes it appear promising, and we'll be sure to include a review of the book in an upcoming issue and perhaps even here, on this blog. For a sneak preview, go to Veloce's website here.
