RM returns to UK for Automobiles of London

LONDON, England – The focus of the collector car world is set to turn to Central London next weekend with the highly anticipated return of RM Auctions’ Automobiles of London event Oct. 28 at Battersea Evolution.

Presented in association with Sotheby’s, the single-day auction will showcase 84 of the world’s finest motor cars along with a fine selection of automobilia and is set to capture the attention of discerning car collectors from around the world, many of whom are expected to descend on London for the event.

Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe, says the interest and enthusiasm in the collector car hobby remains at an all time high as collectors pursue their passion for exceptional motor cars and seek out the best examples to enjoy and drive.

“Recent RM events have attracted record attendance and posted strong results, with great cars continuing to achieve great prices at auction,” says Girardo. 

 “From rare, early veteran cars through to some of the most exotic supercars of the last decade, this year’s London auction features a magnificent collection of automobiles. We have received great early interest in the event, which is set to round off another fantastic year for RM.” 

The London auction will showcase over 100 years of automotive history and feature some truly rare and outstanding vehicles, ranging from a 1900 Clément-Panhard Type VCP Voiture Légère Two-Seaterto a 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadster.

The star attraction is a highly desirable, race-bred 1965 Shelby 427 Competition Cobra, chassis number CSX3006, the sixth pure-bred competition Cobra built. This car boasts impeccable provenance and race history, including first place in the Ilford 500 at Brands Hatch in 1966, driven by Bob Bondurant and David Piper. Freshly restored and well-documented, CSX3006 was recently rebuilt to its 1966 race specifications.

Also set to garner considerable interest is a super-rare 1963 ATS 2500 GT 3.0-Litre Coupé, one of only eight ATS sports cars produced between 1962 and 1965. Chassis no. 2004 was the last example built, one of only two fitted with the 300-horsepower ATS 3.0-litre V8 engine and believed to be one of only five surviving examples. The London event marks the firsttime an ATS has ever been offered at public auction.

The London auction will also shine a spotlight on a fantastic private collection of veteran cars. Notable lots include: a 1903 Cadillac Model A Runabout, a 1902 Peugeot Type 54 Two-Seater, a 1905 Sunbeam 12/14 hp Five Passenger Side-Entrance Tonneau, and a 1904 Société Manufacturière d’Armes 24/30 hp Open-Drive Landaulette, all of which are being sold with highly-prized entries to this year’s London to Brighton car run on Nov. 1, four days after the auction.

As evidence that the auction line-up features some of the best examples available to the international market, consignments have been sourced from all corners of the globe – 11 countries in total – ranging from the UK to Italy, Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Austria, Singapore, Canada and the United States.

Interested bidders will have the opportunity to preview the cars at Battersea Evolution, London, England, on Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Doors open on Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. with all the auction action getting underway at 3 p.m.Admission to the event is by catalogue only, which is available for £70 and admits two.
