The second annual Barrington Concours d’Elegance, Legends & Legacies, is Chicago’s premier event for classic car lovers and aficionados. This world-class event, which will include 100 of the world’s most rare and historic automobiles, is scheduled for Oct. 5 at picturesque Arlington Park.

Only the most beautiful and rare classic cars are invited to appear this year and will compete to be named “the best of the best.” The showfield is limited to 100 of the most exclusive automobiles, not only from the Chicago area, but from around the country.

“In a short time, Legends & Legacies has established itself as a respected, international event benefitting Hospice of Northeastern Illinois and the Barrington Area Conservation Trust, with 100 percent of the proceeds benefitting both charities,” said Mary Bradford-White, event co-chairwoman and president of the Barrington Area Conservation Trust.

Examples of cars include a rare 1935 Amilcar Pegase Grand Prix owned by honorary event chair and renowned collector Malcolm S. Pray Jr. It is the only surviving example of the “Pegase” series. The exhibition will also feature “The Car that Escaped the Fuhrer.” Pieter Nortier, original owner and a champion auto racer, drove the 1937 BMW 328 at top speed across occupied Holland in 1941 when bombing and looting by Nazi soldiers became intense. Nortier hid the car for three years in the basement of an art museum only three blocks from SS headquarters.

Events will be held throughout the weekend in the Barrington area and at Arlington Park. Weekend events include the “Celebration of Speed” at the Autobahn Raceway on Oct. 5, where car enthusiasts can safely explore their car’s performance at one of America’s premier motor sports facilities. The event will be followed on Oct. 4 with the Barrington Road Rally & Village Day. Everyone from concours automobile exhibitors to families in their minivans can participate in the Road Rally through the winding hills and picturesque countryside of the Barrington area. At various locations throughout the village, the activity will showcase all types of cars in the spirit of a cruise nights “grand finale.”

The concours gets in full swing on Oct. 5 at Arlington International Racecourse where cars will be displayed on the Arlington Park infield.
Cost for general admission tickets is $30 in advance and $35 day of the show. VIP tickets that include access to the clubhouse, VIP Terrace Suite and buffet are available for $80 in advance and $85 day of the show.
