SAN JOSE, Calif. – Mike Hennessy, producer of Hot San Jose Nights Car Show and Car Guy Channel TV Show, in conjunction with The San Jose Mercury News and the San Jose Rotary Disaster Relief committee have announced a benefit to help victims of Hurricane Sandy to be held on Sunday, Dec. 16, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Mercury News Campus located at 750 Ridder Park Drive, San Jose, CA 95190. (Cars to arrive at 8 a.m. for setup.)
The event will feature local bands; both a live auction and a silent auction; more than 300 specialty cars; and celebrity appearances. 100% of the funds collected will be handled by The San Jose Rotary Disaster Relief committee and given to the New York Rotary to distribute. Partners include The Red Cross, The Humane Society and The SPCA.
Checks can be made out to "The San Jose Rotary Foundation." All donations are tax deductible. The event is free to the public.
A special presentation by local TV reporters; politicians and celebrities will be on the main stage at 11 am. Bands will play throughout the day. Food will be available from the concession stands. There will be live and silent auctions with items from The 49ers; The Sharks; The SF Giants; San Jose Giants; and more, plus gift certificates from local businesses.
Hennessy says he's never forgotten the 1989 California earthquake. "We were sent support from all across the US. It's only fitting we help our fellow Americans in need. However, I understand that during these times many folks are strapped for cash. That's why we've asked our local businesses to donate a raffle item in the form of a $20 gift certificate to their store; restaurant; service, or for their product for raffle or silent auction. Some of us have been more blessed during this time than others. If you can donate items there is really no better feeling to know the money raised will go to those in dire need."
