Father, daughter killed in accident involving Model A

The accident occured on Interstate 70 in Howard County, Maryland on the evening of June 30.

It was one of three serious accidents involving antique Ford Model automobiles and their owners in just over two weeks.

According to an Associated Press report, the Maryland crash occurred near the Route 97 exit in Lisbon, Md. around 6:30 p.m. as 62-year-old Richard Dashiell of Bowie drove east in the far right lane in his 1929 Model A Ford. Police say the car was hit by a 2007 Dodge. Witnesses told police that Dashiell’s vehicle was going about 50 mph when it was hit. Police say Dashiell’s car had a “Slow Moving Vehicle” sticker on the rear window. Dashiell and his daughter, Amelia, were thrown from the vehicle. The driver of the Dodge was not injured. Police say no charges have been filed but the accident is still under investigation.

FIVE INJURED IN HEAD-ON CRASH INVOLVING 1928 MODEL A

Five people were injured in a head-on crash west of Medford, Oregon on Saturday morning, June 20 involving a 1928 Ford Model A.

According to The Oregonian, Jake Ramos, 53, of Medford, swerved his pick-up truck through the intersection into incoming traffic to avoid a stopped car, hitting the Model A.

Daile Prettyman, 67, the driver of the Model A, and passenger Richard Mace, 65, of Medford, Oregon suffered serious injuries. Passengers Kenneth Chandler, 55 and Jordan Chandler, 16, suffered minor injuries. A passenger in the Ramos car, 11-year-old Robert Thompson of Medford was injured in the crash as well.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seat belt.

MODEL T TOTALED IN CRASH DURING COAST-TO-COAST RACE
A Michigan couple’s dream of seeing their Model T car finish a coast-to-coast race has come to a screeching halt.

Gail and Dan Crane of DeWitt were taking part in the Ocean to Ocean Endurance Race this week when their historic automobile was totaled after being hit by a truck out West.

“I’m brokenhearted. We’re disappointed about not being able to finish the race,” Gail Crane told the Lansing State Journal. “We were looking forward to it.”

Gail Crane said she and Jann Normington, 57, of Lyons, were on Interstate 80 in Wyoming on Monday when a truck rear-ended the Model T. She and Normington were taken to a hospital and released a few hours later. They suffered only minor injuries.

Dan Crane had been trailing them in the couple’s trailer, but was not near them when the accident occurred.

The Ocean to Ocean is a re-enactment of the 1909 race that put auto pioneer Henry Ford and his car on the map. The roughly month long race began June 14 in New York City and is expected to end in Seattle July 12.

Participants can usually avoid expressways, since Model Ts can’t travel at modern highway speeds. But Gail Crane said I-80 was the only road to take them through that part of the country.
