Iola’s “International Alley” Back and Better

Editor Input Needed

Last summer the first "International Alley" event for imported classic cars became part of the Iola Old Car Show. This show-within-a-show attracted 54 sports cars, imported sedans and even an Australian "Ute" style Austin truck.

Based on the success of last year's effort, International Alley will be returning bigger and better for 2007. A number of improvements are being made in order to increase the number of participants and give them more exposure. The most noticeable difference will be in the location, with the imported car display being moved closer to the car show's main gate.

A shadier location in the far northwest corner of the grounds will bring the International Alley closer to major spectator traffic. This area, just north of the Krause Publications tennis courts, can accommodate an estimated 100 smaller vehicles. It will be set aside for the special exhibit only on Sunday July 15.

As was true in 2006, all cars participating in the International Alley event will be admitted for free on July 15. While the first show drew primarily British cars (and one Fiat), it is hoped that imported models from other countries like Italy, Germany and France will turn out this year.

Clubs such as the Fox Cities British Car Club, the Madison MG Club, the Milwaukee and Great Lakes MG Motor Group (MGMGMG) and Wisconsin Jaguars Limited are all being encouraged to participate and set up small tents to attract new members. With the rising gas prices, more vintage imports are being collected and the hobbyists who buy them are looking to join the one-marque clubs.

Krause Publications will support International Alley with copies of its Standard Catalog of Imported Cars, Standard Guide to British Sports Cars, Porsche Ultimate Guide and new Standard Catalog of Jaguar all being available in the International car area.
