Meadow Brook to celebrate 30 years

Car collectors and aficionados will descend on Rochester, Michigan July 31- August 2 for the The Meadow Brook Concours.

will each celebrate their 30th anniversaries at this year's event.

Troy, MI − In less than two weeks car collectors and automotive aficionados from around the continent will descend on Rochester, Michigan to enjoy an exceptional motoring weekend in the heart of the American automotive landscape. The Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance and RM Auctions each celebrate 30th anniversaries July 31 to August 2 on the grounds of the historic Meadow Brook Hall.

The weekend festivities kick off with the Meadow Brook Concours vintage motoring tour of Bloomfield Hills and Birmingham on Friday, July 31. Along the way, participants will enjoy exclusive tours of esteemed local car collections and lunch at the Townsend Hotel in downtown Birmingham. A behind-the-scenes tour of The Henry Ford is another exciting organized activity available the same day.

On Saturday, August 1, join Ralph Gilles of Chrysler Group LLC, Patrick Schiavone of Ford Motor Company and Bill Porter, retired from General Motors at an Automotive Design Forum in the Meadow Brook Hall Ballroom to hear their thoughts on automotive design over the years. 

Also on Saturday, RM’s Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook returns to the Shotwell Pavilion with a selection of 100 collector cars including Detroit-built luxury cars from the private European collection of Thomas H. Rupf.

Motown’s “Les Williams and The Contours”, known for songs like "Do You Love Me", will be rocking the Concours at its 30th Anniversary Gala on Saturday evening. Held at the Meadow Brook Hall Loggia Terrace, festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. with a sumptuous strolling dinner followed by light-hearted activities like hula hoop contests, and a live auction.

The weekend’s main event is Sunday’s 2009 Meadow Brook Concours d’Elegance featuring a diverse range of over 220 exciting cars and motorcycles.

RUPF COLLECTION
RM Auctions will join in the Meadow Brook Concours’ “Best of Detroit” celebrations by offering a selection of Detroit-built luxury cars from the private European collection of Thomas H. Rupf at the Vintage Motor Cars of Meadow Brook event. Amongst those set for the auction block are an award-winning 1933 Chrysler Imperial Eight CL Sport Phaeton, one of only 36 built; an AACA and Grand National award-winning 1933 Packard Twelve Model 1005 Five-Passenger Sport Phaeton; and an elegant 1936 Packard Twelve Convertible Victoria featuring a rare in-dash radio and fully chrome plated headlamps.

MAJESTIC AMERICAN MARQUES
RM Auctions will lift the gavel on several majestic American marques including Cadillac, Chrysler, Packard and Pierce-Arrow on August 1. Highlighting this eclectic group is the 1930 Cadillac V16 "Dandini" Limousine once owned by Countess Lillian Remillard Dandini, heir to a San Francisco brick company fortune. Other well-storied offerings include: a 1937 Cord Supercharged Beverly Sedan previously owned by the legendary race boat builder and speed record holder Garfield "Gar" Wood, and an award-winning 1933 Chrysler CL Imperial Sport Phaeton with coachwork by LeBaron.

VINTAGE MOTOR CARS
From pre-war classics to exotic sports cars, some 100 significant and historic automobiles are set to cross the auction block. Early highlights include two magnificent Chrysler Airflows - both stunning examples of the Art Deco streamline era. Other exciting American and European classics offered from private collections include an original 1956 Jaguar XK 140MC Roadster formerly owned by television host Alex Trebek, a Tango Red, Hemi-powered 1955 Chrysler C-300 and a national award-winning Rick Dore custom 1953 Buick Hardtop aptly named "Breathless".
