Muscle Cars Roll Into South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. ' The Studebaker National Museum has opened a special exhibition honoring the harriest decade in automobile production with "She's Real Fine Muscle Cars."
The exhibit will run through March 16, and as part of the exhibit, several events are planned to portray the cultural phenomenon that grew up and around this purely American car. The exhibition events include a street party, film series beginning in January and muscle car personality events in February.
The exhibit will capture the essence of muscle cars through a display of some of the finest muscle cars ever produced: Ford Galaxie No. 717 drag racer, a Shelby Mustang GT-500, Corvette, Pontiac GTO and an all-star rotation of big- and small-block favorites including Chevy Camaro, Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt, Firebird, AMC SC/Rambler and more.
The muscle car era is not just about the cars, but also the exciting personalities. The Studebaker National Museum will present some of those famous names, such as Dick Brannan and Ron "Fuzzy Oil Can" Stealy so visitors can learn how they defined the muscle car culture.
Friday nights in January will be reserved for a muscle car movie night with screenings of "American Graffiti" on Jan. 4, "Bullitt" on Jan. 11 and "Spin Out" with Elvis Presley on Jan. 18. Some of the most memorable parts of a movie are often the car chase scenes.
