Pistol-Packin’ Granny Robs Gas Station: Faces Life in Prison
Have you ever wondered if skyrocketing gas prices are having an impact on the average consumer? Here’s your proof
LIVONIA, Mich.'Using a toy gun wrapped in electrical tape, a 65-year-old Livonia woman robbed a gas station in Novi recently after police say she flashed the toy gun wrapped in electrical tape and passed a note demanding money.
After walking out of the Sunoco gas station on Grand River between Novi and Taft roads, Anna May Kwasny proceeded to climb into her white Pontiac and drove three miles west on Grand River to a Mobil gas station in Wixom, parking the car next to a gas pump, according to local police reports.
According to an article in the Detroit Free Press, the toy-pistol packing granny then walked into the gas station and handed the cashier a $100 bill.
"She wanted $15 for gas," the night manager told the newspaper. "She was very courteous. She said, 'Thank you. Have a nice night everybody!' "
However, by this time, a Novi police officer had heard a description of her car and spotted it parked by the gas pump. So, when the gray-haired, bespectacled Kwasny walked back to her late-model Pontiac G6 and began pumping gas, she was interrupted by the arrival of "at least six police cars," the manager reported.
Kwasny was arraigned last week in the district court in Novi on charges of armed robbery, punishable by up to life in prison, and released on a $25,000 cash surety bond of 10%, meaning she was able to post $2,500.
