Reno Swap Meet on the Move

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Reno Swap Meet, an event started by William Harrah in June 1965, will be changing, and part of those changes includes a move of venues. This year’s event will be held at the Arco Arena in Sacramento, Calif., Aug. 3.

Evonne Sweeney, president of Reno Swap Meet Inc., explained that the 43-year-old Reno Swap Meet’s location will move in 2008 following a change in the relationship with the organizers of the Hot August Nights event.

For 2008, the Reno Swap Meet was asked to submit a bid in order to participate in the combined event. As a result, the Reno Swap Meet refused to “bid” on its participation in the combined event it helped start and was replaced, necessitating the change in venues to Sacramento.

However, Reno Swap Meet organizers hope to return to the city for which the event is named in 2009. Meanwhile, the Reno Swap Meet has already lined up many vendors and volunteers for its new 2008 Sacramento event.
