HOLIDAY MODEL A Tour

On May 28, several dozen members of the Model A Ford Club of America departed from a McDonalds on Capital Drive, in Milwaukee, for an adventure that some participants planned to take more than a week to complete. While the Wisconsin region of the club is based in Milwaukee, members from other Wisconsin towns gathered at the tour hub on the south end of Fond du Lac.

Tour planners Dave and Donna Boucher formulated a full slate of interesting events and activities. The fun began with a caravan to Fond du Lac, where William Ford and his family had worked to arrange a two-day stay at the Comfort Inn, with many side trips in that area. The Comfort Inn and Holiday Inn next door served as the hub location for the cars to stay overnight.

Over the long holiday weekend, the Model A owners had opportunities to visit Jim Baldauf's car collection, the Experimental Aircraft Assoc., the Villa Loretto home in Mt. Calvary, the Kristmas Kringle Shop, fabricator Joe Perrizo’s hot rod garage, the Galloway House historic site, Siebken’s restaurant in Elkhart Lake, the Fond du Lac lighthouse (built in 1933) and an area antique mall.

The antique Fords buzzed along winding Wisconsin back roads at speeds up to a blazing 45 mph, but stayed relatively free of problems and breakdowns. A pizza party was enjoyed by all and a Sunday evening banquet was held.

On Monday morning, some of the MAFCA members set off for Memorial Day parades or home, while a number of others started an extended tour that was planned to take another week, with stops in Eagle River, Merrill, Green Bay, Shawano and other places.
