Not Quite a Survivor®

A barn find 1968 L-88 Corvette came into the possession of Pro Team Corvette of Napoleon, Ohio, on Sept. 24, 2008. The car has a faded Rally Red exterior and red interior. The L88 big-block is hooked to a “Rock Crusher” M-22 gearbox. The car was ordered with some serious street racing in mind. It has the J-56 brakes, F-41 heavy-duty suspension, heavy-duty rear end and a radio delete. The car’s paint is original, but the side panels were customized with ehat might be called “hippie graphics” to make it stand out on the streets. The interior is also all original. In fact, the entire car is an unrestored, unmolested street racing car that had only had one name on the title until Pro Team got it. “The car is not quite a Survivor®, but really neat,” says the Pro Team Website. It is one of 80 L-88's produced in 1968. It is also one of two Rally Red 1968 convertibles produced with the red interior. Additionally, it’s one of 216 total L-88 produced in all years (1967-1969) that this engine was offered. Pro Team says it is considering invitations for display of the vehicle, prior to booking it for a complete restoration by Nabors Restoration company. Terry Michaelis, the owner of Pro Team, feels that unrestored, low-mile cars like this ragtop should be viewed in their "as found" condition prior to restoration. Michaelis views this type of car as a great tool for Corvette judging seminars.
