Despite all the moaning and groaning you hear about “lazy” young people these days, there are plenty of youthful entrepreneurs who work very hard to start, run and grow successful businesses. Dave Collard, of Green Bay, Wis., is one of them. His Diamond Detailing (www.diamonddavesdetailing.com) shop has been doing so well that he recently moved into a larger building.
We’re not surprised to hear this. A couple of years ago, Collard traveled to my Gunner's Great Garage in Manawa, Wis., to conduct a free seminar on detailing tricks and the use of a product called clay bar. About 25 people attended the seminar and all of them loved it. No wonder, because it was a great learning experience.
We always feel that anyone who can put on a good seminar knows what he or she is talking about. Collard worked his magic on a timeworn Triumph TR7 and by the end of the session, he had everyone helping to turn it into a much nicer looking car than it was.
Dave’s new shop in a Green Bay suburb shares space with a limousine service. He has a white tiled stall in the “back front corner” of the building (that’s the front corner nearest the back wall) where he can go to town on anything from a limousine to a Locomobile. Dave is busy, too. Wisconsin had a rough winter and a lot of people are looking to get their cars in top form for some summer cruising. If you’re in the area and you’ve been putting off spring car care, just look up Diamond Dave Collard.
