Working for OLD CARS WEEKLY meant we did some interesting things. Attending the Homer Fritterling Auction near South Bend, Ind., was one of them. Mr. Fritterling was an early Duesenberg collector who owned a trucking company. He would pay his drivers a bonus if they found and brought back a Duesenberg when they were coming "back home again to Indiana." Using this method, Mr. Fritterling had acquired about 28-30 of the desirable Duesenberg cars. After he passed away, all of the cars were sold in a big auction at his place. We can't remember the exact year, but it was probably in the mid-1980s and it was a big deal at the time. We took a lot of photos, but years later we lost track of them. They are probably still lanquishing in a file cabinet somewhere -- lost automotive history until someone stumbles on them someday.
