ACD Museum welcomes Stainless Steel Collection

AUBURN Ind. – The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum welcomes the Stainless Steel Collection from the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum. The collection consists of a 1936 Ford sedan, 1960 Ford Thunderbird, 1966 Lincoln Continental convertible and finally a 1981 DeLorean.

The three stainless steel Ford vehicles were built for Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. by the Ford Motor Co. to expose the American public to the wonders of stainless steel. Allegheny Ludlum Steel was a pioneer in the production of stainless steel and wished to extol the amazing properties of this wonder metal. With the difficulties of manufacturing a stainless steel body, these cars were not produced until the end of the model year. Used by Allegheny Ludlum Steel officers and salesmen, they crossed the United States and accrued hundreds of thousands of miles.

The 1981 DeLorean is one of the most recognizable vehicles in modern automotive history. From its stainless steel body to its upward lifting gullwing doors, many people comment on its striking features. Conceived by John Z. DeLorean and built in North Ireland, the DeLorean has a fascinating and controversial story. This particular DeLorean is the very first production car to leave the factory.

“We are excited to display these intriguing vehicles from Crawford Auto Aviation Museum, which has begun a complete renovation of its current facility,” said ACD Museum operations director Kendra Klink.

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum – where the world’s finest cars of yesterday live today!
