Miami Vice Ferrari joins Mecum lineup
Mecum Auctions will continue its busy summer with a three-day auction that will include more than 600 cars and 50 collector motorcycles. Bidding on vehicles begins Thursday at 10 a.m. and Friday and Saturday at 11 a.m., with road art items being auctioned 30 minutes prior. Bidder registration is $100 and can be completed in advance online or on-site at the auction.
Among the headliners will be one of the stars of the hit TV series “Miami Vice” — a 1986 Ferrari Testarossa. This iconic supercar will be among the many trophies crossing the block at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa – Del Monte Golf Course. Repainted white at the behest of director Michael Mann for better visibility in night scenes, this Testarossa quickly moved into cult status.
The Testarossa sports a 4.9-liter, 390-hp flat-12 engine, a traditional five-speed manual gated shifter, beige leather, power windows, power locks, power seats, cruise control and air conditioning. After “Miami Vice” ended its series run in 1989 the car was placed into storage until earlier this year. Bonhams sale to offer heavy dose
of hot Ferraris

A selection of 10 fantastic Ferraris will be high on the menu for visitors to Bonhams’ Quail Lodge Auction Aug. 14 in Carmel, Calif. More than 40 cars have been consigned for the event.
Among the stars will be a 1951 Ferrari 212 Inter Cabriolet by Vignale. The first of only four models bodied by Vignale, the matching-numbers convertible ­ chassis number 0159E ­ has its Red Book Certification from Ferrari Classiche, benefits from a comprehensive restoration completed last year, and received second-place honors at the 2014 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance behind the Best of Show-winning Ferrari 375MM. It features aluminum alloy coachwork and Colombo V-12 engine. With documented history from new, it is accompanied by documentation, tools and period photographs.
Bonhams has consigned nine other Ferraris to the sale, from 246s and 308s to 330s and 365s. Examples include the company’s top-selling luxury model of the time, a 365 GT 2+2 that was sold new by Bill Harrah to Bobbie Gentry; a brace of Dinos ­ (GT and GTS); a pair of 308s; a highly sought after 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta; and an F40.
Viewing sessions will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. both Thursday and Friday.

Private collection could set new records at RM Sotheby’s event

A stunning private collection of superb cars will cross the auction podium as part of RM Sotheby’s flagship Monterey sale. Dubbed “The Pinnacle Portfolio: A rare collective of automotive distinction,” the collection of postwar sports cars comprises an exceptional series of approximately 30 automobiles. The group includes some of the most iconic and important sports and racing automobiles of the 1950s and 60s, to a stellar selection of cutting-edge, high-performance contemporary supercars. RM Sotheby’s predicts the value of the offering will easily set a new dollar record for private automobile collections sold at auction.
“While many of the world’s most impressive collections were established in the public eye of the car-collecting world, The Pinnacle Portfolio was assembled with a clandestine, surgical precision unlike any other that has come to market. Highlights of The Pinnacle Portfolio include everything from a matching-numbers 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing Alloy, one of just 29 aluminum-bodied examples, to a 2012 Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport.

The 13th installment of the an event organizers bill as the largest automobilia show in America will be held Aug. 11-12 at The Ballroom of the Embassy Sweets on U.S. 1. Roughly 45 top international dealers will display their wares, which will include original vintage posters, photographs, rally plates, badges and pins, hood ornaments, signs, original art, display items, scale models, literature and books, signed items, postcards, stamps, unique scarves and ties and more.
