ST. CHARLES, Ill. – Bloomington Gold, the nation’s oldest continuously running Corvette show, is not just for Corvettes any longer. The 2008 event, set for June 26-29 on the grounds of Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Ill., will include a new “All-Brand” Survivor Show that welcomes well-preserved, unrestored cars of all marques to join the Corvette festivities on June 29. This year, the “All-Brand” Survivor Show will not be judged, but organizers hope to start such a procedure in future years.
Show activities will continue to include world-renowned Corvette judging and certification, swap meets, educational programs focusing on restoration and preservation, auctions and private sales, as well as road tours and club gatherings focused on the grand heritage of the Corvette.
The event also offers one of the broadest scopes of any Corvette show, as an array of Corvettes of all types will be on display throughout the event, from recently unearthed barn finds and basket cases to museum-quality show vehicles.
In an effort to help the latest Corvette fans become more aware of the high-powered heritage of their C4, C5, or C6 Corvette, the 2008 event will honor a special collection of extraordinary high-performance 1967, ’68 and ’69 L88 Corvettes. This year Bloomington Gold celebrates the 20th anniversary of its original “Earthquake ’88” event and promises to display the largest collection of 560-hp hand-built “homologation special” Corvettes ever assembled. Only 216 of these legendary vehicles were built, making them among the rarest Corvettes ever produced.
