Ford Celebrates 45 Years of an Icon with Mustang

Alabama is gearing up to show Mustang one heck of a birthday party this weekend.

This weekend, thousands of pony enthusiasts from the U.S. and beyond will converge in Birmingham for a weekend of vintage displays, street parties and road racing, all in honor of the 45th anniversary of an American icon. In addition to the day officially being declared as "Mustang Day" by the state of Alabama, the arrival of a cross-country Mustang convoy will help make the weekend a once-in-a-lifetime event for pony fans.

Events are planned for April 16-19, 2009 at Barber Motorsports Park.

Ford Motor Company also is giving enthusiasts a chance to be a part of the 2010 Mustang launch. Through its "The '10 Unleashed" campaign, Mustang fans will have the opportunity to live out their ultimate experience behind the wheel of a 2010 Mustang - whether drifting in Japan like world champion Vaughn Gittin, Jr. or customizing a new Mustang using Ford Racing Performance Parts.

The Ford Mustang has been America's #1 Pony Car since its introduction on April 17, 1964, at the New York World's Fair. In the last 45 years, over 9 million have been sold.
