This 1932 Marmon Sixteen Victoria Coupe is one of more than a dozen sixteen-cylinder cars that’ll be on display this year at Glenmoor Gathering, and one of the three Marmon Sixteens owned by Greg Dawson of Indianapolis.

In 2011, the Glenmoor Gathering will present another field of outstanding automobiles and motorcycles Sept. 16-18. Featured classes will be “Avant Garde: Early Front-Wheel Drive,” “Sixteen Cylinder Motorcars” and “The Automobiles of Darrin,” including a group of 1938-42 Packard Darrin automobiles.

The Front-Wheel Drive Class will include examples of the legendary Cord, Ruxton, Citroen Traction Avant, a Miller race car plus other early front-wheel drive automobiles. Most car enthusiasts think of Cord when the early front wheel drive is mentioned -- and there will be a display of Cord L29s as well as Cord 810s and 812s. Other significant early front wheel drive automobiles on display will be the U. S.-built Ruxton as well as the European Citroen, DKW and Georges Irat.

Perhaps the most celebrated front wheel drive automobile on display during the concours weekend will be a 1937 Cord 812 phaeton owned by legendary western film star Tom Mix. Mix was driving the Cord when he was killed in a one-car accident in 1940. A complete restoration was recently completed, during which the car was returned to its original condition, as owned by Mix.

The 2011 Gathering will also feature a special display of vintage British motorcycles as well as the usual great show field of American and European classic automobiles.

A special bonus of the 2011 Gathering weekend will be a Classic Car Club of America Grand Classic, which will be held on Saturday, sponsored by the Ohio Region of the CCCA. Many of those cars will also be on display during Sunday’s concours.

The 2011 honorary chairman is Steve Moskowitz, executive director of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Headquartered in Hershey, Pa., it is the largest antique automobile organization in the world.

Chosen as the 2011 poster artist is Charles Maher of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., a past president of the National Automotive Artists Association and a member of the Automotive Fine Art Society.

During the 2011 concours, automotive art by a variety of artists will be displayed and on sale. Among the automotive authors who’ll be signing their books will be Michael Furman, a premier photographer of vintage and classic automobiles.

The 2011 weekend activities are scheduled to include the Passport Transport Countryside Tour, automotive seminars, cocktail party and Gala Dinner, cooking demonstrations, a Junior Judges’ program and other family activities.

On Friday, from 3-4 p.m., there’ll be a special presentation on the history of the famed Chrysler Turbine car by Steve Lehto, author of Chrysler Turbine: The Rise and Fall of Detroit’s Coolest Car. From 4-5:30 p.m., there’ll be a seminar on Classic Coachwork by master metal shaper Fay Butler and noted restorer Dale Adams.

On Sunday, there will again be a display on the club’s front lawn of “World Class Performance Cars,” including Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis and Porsches—plus a special display of Dodge Vipers and the “father of the Viper,” Roy Sjoberg.
